State overtime rules that differ from federal

Federal law requires overtime after 40 hours in a workweek. Several states add daily overtime and other rules.

   California

   Overtime after 8 hours in a workday and 40 in a week, double time after 12 hours in a day, and special rules for the seventh consecutive day.

2. 02

   Alaska

   Daily overtime after 8 hours for many employers, in addition to weekly overtime.

3. 03

   Colorado

   Overtime after 12 hours in a workday, as well as after 40 hours in a week.

   Regular rate of pay

   Bonuses, shift differentials, and some commissions must be included when calculating the overtime rate.
